Allright, installed Vista Home Premium, no problems. But I also had
installed 2g more of RAM (for 4g total). Vista shows 3.25g. Any ideas??

That is all a 32bit system will show.. the system does use all of the RAM,
but you only get access to a little over 3gb of it directly.. 64bit systems
wil show and access 4gb and a whole lot more..

No, it isn't a rip-off..

That's normal for a 32bit OS to show. It's being used, just not displayed.

There's a more technical answer, and hopefully someone will
elaborate.

Just know, that's the way it is.

OK, I've got 4GB installed but it's only showing 2.0. What's the trick to
use more?

Suspect that two of the sticks are not compatible with the others..

The Dell diagnostics show them just fine, and a couple of stand alone memory
testers also show no problems in all 4 GB. In fact when I switch the two
sets of 1GB sticks, it still shows just 2 GB.

Perhaps you should check the Memory Remap setting in you BIOS?

I just got the answer from Dell. It seems that the MoBo from nVidia doesn't
recognize more than 2GB in a 32-bit OS because of the chipset with SLI video
support! <s> So much for a top-of-the-line 9 month old "Vista Compatible"
system!

This is a common "problem." 32 bit systems have a limitation of 4 GB of
memory, but not all of it is addressable. Although I could more fully answer
the question, it would be less complete than if you searched for your it
online.
