Hi,

I have 4.5 GB of RAM in a 2 processor machine running W2K
Advanced Server SP4. When I look at the properties of my
computer or task manager they report just under 4 GB of
physical RAM. Is there a switch I need to set to enable
RAM over 4 GB?

Thanks,
Patrick

How much physical memory does your BIOS report when the computer boots?

Patrick,

Is the system a Compaq? I ask because Compaq is known, in some of their servers, for dedicading RAM for PCI slots,
which causes the OS to not see the full amount of Physical RAM. Some Compaq servers had a memory setting in the BIOS
that could be set that would also set aside RAM preventing the OS from seeing it all.

Mike: The BIOS reports 4.5 GB upon boot.

Bill: Yes this is a Compaq ML370 G3. I guess I'll
research compaq to where the settings are for PCI RAM and
or setting some asside.

Thanks,
Patrick

Patrick,

Here a few articles at Compaq's site that I found.

I'm sure if you search their support site for "Proliant RAM PCI Windows" you find a few more articles about this.
