If you have 1 GB of RAM with a 3.2 GHz P4 Prescott CPU, how do you get
WinXP Pro to use as much of that memory as possible?

For example are there tweaks which will increase the disk cache sizes,
and other things like that?

RAM is a terrible thing to waste.

In the days of Win98 memory tools like cacheman were a help to better use
memory
and set cache sizes but with Windows XP I dont believe its necessary
anymore. Ive tried
a few memory manager programs and none showed any noticeable improvement. I
use
XP Pro with 1gb of RAM and Windows handles memory management just fine.

I just spotted a rather severe memory leak when using DVD Shrink. I
suppose that's why it's helpful to have lots of RAM.

Search Google for 'DisablePagingExecutive'

It's a registry tweak to stop Windows XP from paging the main OS and instead
keep it loaded into RAM.

I used to set DisablePagingExecutive to enabled but these days i just don't
bother!
(And i notice no performance difference!).

But that's tweaks for you.

Martin.

Bob,

I have read some of your earlier posts on other USENET groups. Someone
reposted some of your writings to sci.physics recently and I have
really enjoyed reading them. Do you have a web site based on your
philosophical ideas? I particularly like your arguments for an
immutable Creator.

If you would visit the sci.physics group, I would very much enjoy
learning more from you.

That argument has been presented many times on Usenet. Google for
keywords like "Existential Metaphysics" or "Supreme Being".

Thanks for your kind comments. I am busy trying to learn all I can
about the wonderful world of DVD technology. I also have another
project with hardware backup devices.

I know what it's like to be busy on a project. Sometime when you need
a break and want to discuss the physics behind existential metaphysics,
look me up.
