I have recently upgraded my ram with a 512MB stick. I
had already had one before so now I would be up to a
gig. But when windows xp starts it will get to the
desktop and then restart. Then sometimes it says that
I'm missing a file from windows32. I know in my
motherboard manual that windows 2000 and ME cant support
over 512MB but I know that XP can. Is there something
that I can do to make this work. I know that both sticks
and both ddr slots are good. I have tried each alone.

Go to crucial.com and check your computer model for all the parameters
for memory. I.E. Memory type, maximum memory for your system, latency
etc

I already know though, I have the motherboard manual. I
can support upto 2GB for my DDR slots. For some reason
it does not want to work.

Chi,

Can you get to Event Viewer (maybe thru the LAN) and see what the
exact error message is?

You have tested each stick alone, and in each memory slot, and get no
error? Sounds like the two sticks aren't compatible. Maybe different
speeds, CAS latencies? Can you provide the make and model numbers on
each stick?

Cheers,

Chuck

Are you putting the memory in the correct slots?

(Not as silly as it may seem)

On my motherboard there are 4 memory slots. When I got 2 256M DDR memory
sticks (matched pair purchased at same time) I had to be careful which
slots to put them in. The motherboard slots were color coded, two were
red and two were green. I filled the slots of one color first even
though they were not adjacent on the motherboard. I was warned that this
is a common requirement for DDR memory.

Just a thought

Steve
