RAM Upgrade Ques

I currently have 256 GeiL DDR400 PC3200 RAM in my system and soon will be
upgrading. I am just having trouble deciding to go for 512 or 1Gb of the
same type. If I were to get the 1Gb it would be 2x512 for dual channel and
would therefore need to remove the 256. I have read many people have huge
increases in performance from games from going from 512 to 1Gb, and I was
just wondering if anyone knows of the performance difference from 768 to 1Gb
so that I may decide if it's worth the extra for the 1Gb or just get the
512.

Thanks.

It would help if you stated the motherboard and CPU setup this was going to
be used on. Buying a 'dual-channel kit' doesn't necessarily mean that you
will get dual-channel performance, as this depends on the motherboard
supporting it for 2x DDR400 DIMMs.
