RAM Upgrade Problem

I am trying to Upgrade from 512MB to 1GB RAM on an AM2600+ notebook. I
have a Multivision Solus Notebbok and the manual suggests i can do
it. The BIOS seems register the 1GB but XP Home does not want to
start. With 1GB on booting, the BIOS info shows as normal, then the
Hardware registration info shows as normal then a fast disappearing
blue screen shows with some info but it is so fast i can't read it.
Then the notebook re-boots and the process is repeated.
I have tried each of the two individual new Crucial PC2100 200pin DDR
SODIMM sticks in one of either of the slots and they work (as 512MB).
Originally there was two 256MB sticks in two slots. And now i want to
put two 512MB sticks in.
The type of memory must be correct. And in ties in with the manual's
spec of the RAM.
The BIOS is American Megatrends.

HELP Please.

Often the spec for a machine lists the maximum memory the chipset (and per
number of memory "slots") can support but that doesn't necessarily mean
the system will be stable with that amount of memory installed, or
possibly that memory of a higher spec than actual operating parameters may
be needed (in other words, the motherboard isn't stable enough).

Remedy might be adjusting memory timings in the bios to larger numbers
(slower) if it was set to "auto" or "SPD" for memory, or if it wasn't set
to auto or SPD then try that setting first. Otherwise you may need try
different memory but there's no assurance that *any* memory would work.
It might be worthwhile to hunt down other users of same laptop and find
out what worked for them.
