Like i said before, i think i ran into a RAM problem... or a wall of sorts :wall:

I have Cosairs Dominator PC2 8500

Within 3Dmark 06 specification page, they are shown running at 800 MHz when they should be at 1066 Mhz.

And whenever i try to manually set them to 1066 in bios, the system will reboot but it wont boot up. Unfourtuatly updates the bios seems to introduce more problems than if fixes...

perhaps i need to increase the voltage?

any advice would be appreciated - or am i making a big deal out of nothing?

It may seem obvious but can your motherboard run memory at 1066Mhz?

Because if it can't it will revert to 800Mhz.

yes it can, supports 1066, 800, 667, 533 MHz
in order to use 1066 the CPU needs to be an AM2+.... which the Phenom is.

im going to look into it.

Well i was able to set it to 1066 after i set the memory voltage to 2.1 and boot into windows
unfourtunately this didnt help at all, 3DMark and CPUID saw the memory running at 400MHz or 533MHz.

going to run some test right quick

really strange :(
looking more into it.

What is the CPU FSB and multiplier Alf? - this is going to dictate what your RAM runs at, unless you then change the FSB and the RAM divider.

For instance if you are running at 200 FSB then the max at 1:1 is 400 (200 x 2) - if you use 1:2 you will get 800 (200 x 4)........to get 1066 you will need the FSB for example at 266 and a 1:2 divider (266 x 4 = 1066)

What make/model is the motherboard and Phenom?

For an example I'm going to take a guess that your Phenom is running at 200 x 15 (2.5GHz)......at that speed with the RAM at 1:1 it will run at 400MHz, if you change the divider to 1:2 it will run at 800MHz. To get to 1066 but still keep the CPU at stock you will need to raise the CPU FSB to something like 266 and lower the multiplier to 9.5 (266 x 9.5 = 2.52GHz) and then set the RAM divider to 1:2 (266 x 4 = 1066)

At least thats how it works with Intels anyway, however as I believe that the memory controller on Phenoms are on the CPU and not the motherboard it may of course differ slightly as regards RAM dividers.

CPU FSB is at 200 (stock)
the multiplier is set to auto - so there no i dont know what it is at.

i can raise both the CPU multiplier and FSB seperately - i have no idea how to change the RAM divider

will read the manual now :D

oh and the Mobo and CPU are -

Motherboard - M3N-HT Deluxe
CPU- AMD Phenom 9850 BE
