RAM not recognized

I'm running XP SP2 (Home Edition) andI just replaced my 128MB strip with 2 X
256MB strips. However, the "Properties" under "My Computer" still says 128MB
RAM. The computer appears to be running faster but I want to be sure I don't
need to "tell" my PC that the new RAM has been installed. I performed a scan
through Crucial.com (which is where I obtained the memory specs) and it
recognized the 512MB. Other posts have mentioned to check the BIOS but I'm
not sure where to do that. Thanks in advance.

Use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the BOOT.INI tab.
Click on the "Advanced Options ..." button.
Make certain that the checkbox for the /MAXMEM= line is cleared and
there is no value in the data box for that line.

Good luck

Ron, I followed your steps. The checkbox was already clear and there was no
value in the data box. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!!

Ron, I followed your steps but the problem persists. I contacted the
manufacturer and followed their steps to reset the BIOS but that didn't fix
the problem either. As I mentioned before, I scanned my computer through
Crucial.com and it recognizes the full 512MB of RAM, so if this is a
"cosmetic" problem I can live with it but I want to be sure.

Many thanks again!!

It certainly sounds like it is a "cosmetic" issue but it is one that I
have never encountered before. I am not sure what further action, if
any, you need to take.

Good luck
