I have a Desk Top HP Pavilion 511n that originally came
with 128 mb(RAM) I have successfully increased it to 384
by installing a second 256mb chip. Problem starts when I
repalced the origianl 128mb and replace it with a second
256mb to make a total 512mb, which is verified in the
computer's properities, but the mouse and keyboard freezes
up after a couple of minutes of running any program or
video. I have called HP and they don't have a clue or
can't help. Both chips are from crucial and are the ones
they recomend for my comp. model. I have tried with
different brands of ram and they all give me the same
results.CAN ANYONE HELP IN SOLVING THIS PROBLEM,PLEASE? I
HAD IT WITH HEWLET PACKARD AND PROBABLY I WILL NEVER BUY
ANOTHER COMPUTER FROM THEM...Thanks

It sounds like either one of the RAM sticks is bad
(perhaps the brand new one you just put in?) or having
those two together is not compatible with your
motherboard.

Try using just the brand new stick by itself, then the
brand new stick and the 128 MB stick, you should be able
to narrow down the possible problem that way.

My computer came with 128MB of RAM. When I wanted to increase it to maximum
MBs, having two open slots, the computer manufacturer told me I could add
two sticks at 128MBs each and that 384MBs was the limit. Wonder if that's
true for you as well .

Thank you for your response. I have tested both of the
chips individualy and they work just fine. I also run pc
doctor to test the ram and it all pass, but the freezing
goes on...the only way to continue my work is by pressing
the start bottom for five seconds and re-start the
computer again, and again...Now for responding David= HP
claims the model should work fine with what I've got, 512
is obtainable and the chips are certified by their tech.
dept. but no luck! Any more sugestions will be apreciated.
mario.

You say they run separately which tells me there is a compatibility problem
between the two of them ie they are not identical.

Not only must they be compatible with the motherboard, but with each other.
