I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe MB and when I boot up, the RAM speed shows 166mhz.
What should the speed show if I'm using PC-3200, which is 400mhz??

Thanks!

PC3200 can run at 200mhz. If your processor is running at 166mhz and
you have settings in BIOS set for "Auto" , the memory will run in sync
with the proc. (Which is typically the best thing to do on NF2 boards).

Rob,

I changed the processor to an Athlon 3200 and now when I boot up, it shows
the RAM speed as 200 mhz.
Why don't it show as 400mhz, which is what the CPU and RAM are rated at???
Too confusing for a beginner!!

that is why it is called DDR...Double Data Rate...multiply the 200 x 2 = 400
mhz..you are running at the correct speed

The RAM is called DDR, or "Double Data Rate" The actually data transfer
occurs on both phases of the clock, so a 200 MHz clock rate has a data
transfer rate of 400 MHz.

Thanks for the info, Dino....

If I add another stick of 512 RAM, will that make a big difference??
The board is dual channel..

I am running 1024(2x512) Corsair TwinX1024 C2PT on an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe rev
2.0....you almost need to find a matched pair of ram...and yes it helps..I
had 2 x 256 OCZ..but unmatched...this setup is way better...I have my Barton
2500 running at 220 x 10= 2200 mhz...but because of the frequency I am
at..my "3200" works out to be faster than the stock XP3200.
