RAM disk?

I was wondering if a RAM disk is possible and supported
in XP.

I'm setting up a workstation appliance (just one command
line application) and thought it may be a good way to
improve its performance. I've been skeptical of 2K/XP's
caching performance.

Back in the day, I set up Windows 3.1 to run entirely
from a ram disk and it was phenominal for its time. Slow
to boot, and the apps were only slightly better than
usual, but people were amazed at Windows itself.

Otherwise, I'd be interested in hearing recommendations
of disk partitioning/paging file location, etc. to
optimize this type of appliance-which can hold only a
single disk drive (40GB).

Sack, what can of appliance are you talking about? An iron, a
vacuum cleaner, a microwave? I hope that you have moved up
from Windows 3.1! I have seen posts here by MVP's that you don't need
a ram disk with XP. :-)
