RAM Compatibility with XP

Does anyone know where i can get info or a list of the ram that is compatible with xp pro.
I have had recent problems with xp crashing and the error code is relating to the memory being useless as it is not compatible with xp.
I have not got lots of cash to spend so any unbranded compatible memory that would also work is helpful. It has to be ddr compatible ram.

RAM does not have to be compatible with the OS, it has to be compatible
with the MB and the other RAM sticks. XP may stress the memory path
more than other OSs and so force mismatches to appear sooner, but the
problem is purely at the hardware level.

Before you add more RAM to your MB, find out exactly what you have;
your best shot is to get an identical RAM stick. At a minimum, you
need to have the same type and the same speed.

You've probably already done this, but you should use taskmanager
and/or perfmon to see if you really need memory, and if so, an idea
how much. You might find that the CPU or the disk is really the
bottleneck. Doubling your memory won't do much good if you're still
paging after the upgrade.

It's not a matter of any type of RAM being "compatible" with
WinXP, as long as it isn't defective or of marginal quality.

It is, however, absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be
fully compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM
module(s) already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes
jumper switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new
RAM configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the
manufacturer's web site for specific instructions and compatibility
requirements.

If you cannot lay your hands upon the computer's manual and the
manufacturer doesn't provide a support web site, you can use these
utilities to help determine the correct type of RAM needed:

Unbranded is always a crap shoot, and there is no warranty of
merchantability.

Get good RAM from www.crucial.com. You pay a bit more, but if it doesn't
work they will send you a replacement.
