I am relatively new to PC building and was wondering - If I use a PC3200 RAM
at 400MHz on a compatable 400MHz motherboard with an AMD Athlon processor
with a bus speed of 333MHz will it compromise my 400MHz RAM? I have been
told that the lowest common demoninator bus speed will dominate - is this
true between processor and memory?

Many thanks for your help

Mark

RAM is designed and test to run error-free at a certain
speed, but the FSB controls what speed the RAM actually
runs. If you put PC2100 on a FSB at 333 the RAM would run
at 333 and probably fail or have errors. If you put PC3200
on a FSB at 100 MHz it would run just fine at a speed of
200.
