RAM caused Windows to crash?

My laptop wouldn't boot yesterday since the RAM was faulty, and now
I've bought some new RAM and it boots. Furthermore, it now passes
Memtest-86 with no errors.

However, another problem has revealed itself since after booting I am
now given the option of Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Last Good
Configuration, Start Windows Normally, etc. Whichever option I choose
the computer freezes. Perhaps the constant crashing as the RAM was
dying caused Windows to screw up?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a remedy?

Boot into the recovery console and check hard disk for errors. (chkdsk
/r)

Bad ram can indeed cause filesystem corruption. (though not physical
damage)

A possible solution is a repair install, if the easy fix doesn't pan
out.

Yeah, Windows is probably hosed. Bad ram can do that.
