I have a 1.8 GHZ processor,Windows XP home edition and
512MB of DDRAM. for last 3-4 weeks, after 40- 50 minutes
long use of computer, i am getting a message in the taskbar
saying that system memory is too low, page file usage
starts increasing and then everything slows down badly.
this gets corrected only if i restart the computer.
this problem was not there for months. what can i do to
fix it.

It sounds like something is draining your memory
recourses, could be bad ram too. Do you have 1 512mb
stick or 2 256mb sticks of ram? If the latter, pull one
out and test to see which one may be going bad. Also,
search and download "Aida32ee" a great diagnostic info
tool and also get "Ad-aware 6" from lavasoft or "SpyBot
Search & Destroy". Download these freebies and install to
clean out the adware that might be hogging resources.

I noticed while reading through these replies, that someone mentioned Spybot S&D. I've just had someone installe it on my system and was wondering how I know what to remove and what should stay. Does it delete programs or just the junk from them. The reason I was searching the newsgroup in the first place is because every time I pull up the "recent" folder in Word or Publisher 2002, an error messege pops up.
"An unexpected error occured: Not enough memory available to complete the operation.
Close other programs to make more memory available, and try it again."
It locks it up and the only way to clear it is the Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I can't figure out what's even open. I was thinking that the things Spybot is picking up on may have something to do with it. I have done nothing with Spybot, afraid I'll permanetly remove something I need. Thanx in advance for the help and perhaps my display name should be "semi-comp-illit", please keep your reponses as simple as possible. MzGib
