Ram and Pagefile

I understand that the page file size is supposed to be
about 1.5 - 2 x the size of the Ram in the computer.
What I don't understand is why. If I have 2 Gig of Ram,
why do I need a 3 Gig Page file? Why doesn't the size
needed for the page file go down instead of up as you
have more Ram?

Thanx

Actually, it does go down.

Your logic is correct. The more RAM you have, the less PageFile is needed.
No matter how much RAM you have though, you should allow some PageFile.

No it isn't Unfortunately that's the default that Windows
provides, but it's not a good setting.

It *does* go down. Your thinking is correct. That's why the
default setting is not a good one.
