Perhaps a little more background on your system would be useful.. =)

Basic specs:
Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 m/b, nForce3 chipset
Athlon64 3200 CPU
1GB (2x512MB dual channel) RAM
Pri Master: 120GB/8MB/7200RPM WD
Pri Slave: 160GB/8MB/7200RPM Maxtor
(using CS jumpering on HDD's)
Sec Master: NEC DVDRW
Sec Slave: Pioneer DVDROM
Matrox AGP capture card but upgrading to GeForce 6600 very soon
ADSL modem direct to phone line
450W PSU
Using XP Pro with SP2, no gaming but some basic analogue and digital video
capturing and editing.
Kept as clean as I can make it, regular defrag etc. Try to keep background
apps and processes to the minimum which is why I asked the initial question.
