RAID modification question

I have a RAID 1 array on a Win2K Server and need to add a third drive to
obtain a RAID 5 array. All 3 drives are identical.

What's the safest way to do this so that I don't run the risk of losing
anything? Should I just use tape backup or is it better to use partition
management software?

Thanks much for any help.

Did you intend to reply to my question? You'll see below that you just
echoed the question without a reply.

Thanks.

Safest way would be a full backup of the data, as RAID5 will require writing
over some or all of the existing RAID 1 disks.

Though, if you can get a hold of another disk, you can keep one of the
original RAID 1 disks as the back-up, set up the RAID 5 with the other RAID 1
disk and 2 others, then transfer the data from the back-up RAID 1 disk.
