Hi

It's a bit of a long shot, but, is there any way of
upgrading to a more powerful hardware RAID controller
without having to reinstall the OS and all apps?

Thanks

Phil

If I am understanding you, you want to replace an existing
array controller with a newer one and maintain server.
Wow, that's a tough one. I would look to the manufacturer
of the controller for that answer first.

Stick with the same brand that uses the same drivers, and you should be
fine. PNP will want to update the device descriptions, just so you know.

The thing to worry about with RAID cards is getting the correct config from
the old controller to the new. Depending on whose controller you are using
(most of the "REAL" controllers store the config on the HDD's, so they can
teach a new controller what thier config is) you will need to import the
config from the drives to the new card.

Tell us more about your raid setup, and we will be able to offer better
assistance.
