I'm trying to use the Promise MBFastTrack 133 Lite RAID controller as just
an IDE port for an additional hard drive. I enable the port with the Asus
P4B533-E motherboard with the jumper. I've installed an 80 GB Maxtor HD.
When I booted, of course, Windows XP could not find the drivers. I
downloaded a driver from the Asus web site. The install went okay, but now,
in operation, the HD light comes on for about 10 seconds or longer quite
often. When it does this, it slows everything down. In fact I had intended
to use this drive for capturing video from a digital camcorder, but when I
attempt to capture with the RAID controller enabled, I get dropped frames
and the capture errors out. I have disabled the controller for now, and
everything works fine, and the HD light doesn't come on unless there is some
disk activity.
I made no changes to the default setup in the RAID controller utilities. It
lists the drive as RAID 1+0. I've also updated the BIOS to version 1014.
I'm running Windows XP Pro, 1 GB RAM, Asus P4B533-E mobo, 1-WD 80 GB Hard
drive as Master on IDE 1 (FAT32), 1- Maxtor 40 GB Hard drive as Slave on IDE
1 (FAT32), 1-Optorite CD-RW as Slave on IDE 2, 1- Maxtor 40 GB Hard drive as
Master on IDE 2 (NTFS). I also have a SCSI Plextor 8/20 attached to an
Adaptec SCSI controller.
Thanks for any suggestions.
