RAID Configuration

We have two 72 GB drives. We are going to install Windows 2000 Advanced
Server, SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition, and the Help Desk software. We want
to setup 3 partitions: one for the operating system, one for the SQL log
files, and one for the databases. What do you recommend the RAID
configurations? Should we select RAID 5? Any suggestions are appreciated.

You need to have at least three drives for a raid 5 configuration. Leaves
you with two possibilities raid 0 (stripped set) or raid 1 (mirror) Raid 0
would be faster but provides no fault tolerance you end up with 144 gB of
space. You lose one or the other drives and you have lost it all. Raid 1
provides fault tolerance but you end up with 72 gB of total space.

Also I'm assuming a hardware raid. I wouldn't bother with a software raid.

RAID 5?

Risky business for the bold but see this site for mainly having a software
RAID without the necessary 3+ HD. You will have to copy the entire link.
and I would test an unused HD.

I might warn don't start without looking at the subsequent page which says
W2K will not boo on a software RAID partition.

Now, I see why you said I don't have enough disks. Sorry for not reading

I meant to say setting up 10 GB RAID 1 for operating system and the rest is
RAID 0.
