I replaced a flakey drive in a 3 disk RAID-5 and upon reboot the
system is sitting at the "Windows 2000 Server Family" white screen
with the blue scrolly thingy at the bottom. The Starting Up... blue
bar went all the way to the right and now it sits. The server appears
to be alive and the LED for hard drive channel (IDE) with the RAID is
pegged. Is this thing automatically regenerating without me telling
it to start? I'm going to let it sit overnight as it takes about 8
hours to rebuild this volume. Should we be placing bets on what
state it'll be in in the morning? I've never seen one sit here on
this screen--usually you have to go into disk manager and kick it into
action. Strangely i can ping the server, but nothing is really
running (no rpc, etc). This is Windows 2000 SP4 with a regular
software stripe set with parity. This was a new, blank drive,
straight out of the shrink wrap.
