Has anyone come across the concept of ripping out the factory standard linear CCD from a dedicated slide scanner and replacing it with another one that has better DPI (resolving power) and DMAX (ability to discern more shades of grey)?
There are obvious issues able to be overcome such as software imbedded into the hardware of the scanner; preventing such a DIY upgrade; replacement of globe; focussing and OS drivers etc..
I dont like the idea of forking out $$$ for a new scanner or paying several hundred big ones on ebay, just because the linear CCD on my ScanMaker 35t plus isnt up to speed. I aint rich.
I have searched the net and have found only reference to a DIY photo scanner:
I am already working on the photo scanner idea in another project by using a darkroom negative enlarger and projecting my negative slide onto a modified flat bed scanner as an alternative to my CCD replacement idea. The light source incidently for this project is a filtered light source using an old LCD projector that has red, green and blue polarisers...eliminating any IR light interference and a 150w spotlight from an old car wreck. Any ideas for this project would be great too!!!
Any info on DIY replacement attempts for the slide scanner CCD would be much appreciated.
