Hi there, just installed Beta 2 (64-bit on my system) to be disappointed by
the fact that Windows Aero seems to have disabled itself. Given the specs on
my video card, you would think that this wouldn't be the case. I've tried
various drivers - the default ones from Microsoft, as well as the beta ones
from ATI. The Performance Rating wizard is rating the card itself as a 2.0
subrating, and the 512 of graphics memory a 1.0... what's going on here? My
system specs are below, any help would be amazing.

Thanks,

MadHatter

Intel D945PSN-LK system board
Intel Pentium D 820 dual-core 2.8 GHz CPU
2 GB PQI Turbo DDR2-667 with 3-3-3-8 timings
2 x 74 GB WD Raptor in RAID 0, 8 Kb cluster size on Sil 3112 PCI RAID
controller
ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB PCI-E graphics card
Antec TruePower 2.0 480W PSU

There is an issue with ATI video cards, none current vista driver are
working, if you have error code 43, install the xp driver manualy, right
click computer > properties > device manager > display adapter > right click
and click update driver software > browse your computer > pick the drivers
click have disk and search for the xp drivers
C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-5_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_32464\Driver\2KXP_INF.

The system will recognize your video card, but with no aero

Have you tried uninstalling it from the device manager, rebooting
and reinstalling the drivers?

I've tried both suggestions... using XP drivers and also un- and
re-installing device drivers. The card shows up fine in Device Manager with
no conflicts - just a regular ATI Radeon X1900XT display adapter. Also, the
Performance Rating thing recognizes my card as an ATI Radeon X1900XT... it
just refuses to give it a higher rating....

I have the Asus EAX1900XT and basically have had no issues with it, running
with both the native MS drivers and the ATI Vista drivers.

Graphics rating is 5.9 and graphics memory is 5.7.

Aero also works just fine.

I have a Radeon 9550, and i think the aero thing is like a lotery, i had
this issue since i instaled Vista and i browsed on forums and here, some ppl
just install the OS and the ati drivers and voila ! aero ! some no... I
really don't know what to say, i'm using XP drivers until i find a solution.
