I have a Radeon 9800 PRO working in a computer with an AMD Athlon 64
3200 and XP Service Pack 2 (but the problem shows with Pack 1 as well)
Everything runs fine until I install a TV card.
When the cards and the TVR software (I have tried 3 different types of
cards) are installed but not necessarily in use, the screen gradually
fills with small multicoloured rectangles. Finally, when the whole
screen is obscured, the computer locks up.
If I revert back to an earlier restore point before the card was
installed, everything is fine so there is a definite mismatch between
the 9800 and the TVR software supplied with the TV cards. Removal of
the TVR software kills the problem.
The problem develops faster if the hard disc is being accessed
frequently - a full scan by a virus checker starts it off within 60
seconds.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions
Thanks in advance

Which TV card do you have? Does the SW that came with your TV card cause a
problem or are you just tying other programs? Does your TV card work OK
without the TVR SW? This is a very strange problem for sure. JLC

Thanks for the reply:

It seems to be the software that comes with the TV cards that sets it
all off. The card is installed with the correct drivers and I have
used three different cards - the current one is the LifeWiew model but
I also have the Pinnacle 300-i system that produces the same results.
The Lifeview card comes with an operating program that is called TVR
and when this program is installed on the system, even when not using
the TV card, the problem shows up.
I have downloaded the latest drivers for everything. I have read in
this forum of people experiencing somewhat similar problems with the
9800 when used with games and with over-clocking, but my system is not
overclocked and the problem never materialises when the TV program SW
is not installed.

Thanks for your interest
