Radeon 9800 Pro locks up on UT2K3 and UT2K4 ?

I new to ATI switching from NVIDIA so this may have been discussed already.

All games including UT2K3 and UT2k4demo work great with my NVIDIA TI 4200. I
just purchased a Radeon 9800 Pro(128)
and installed it. Did all the driver updates including MOBO updates. All my
games run great except UT2K3 and UT2K4. They both lock up as soon as I go to
any menu within seconds. Screen freezes and I hear squeal sounds over and
over. I have to do a hard boot to stop it. I updated UT2K3 to the latest
patch and tried previous patches and even tried previous Radeon drivers up
to the latest Catalyst. No success at all.

Any ideas ? Please help. I have removed it and stuck back my NVIDIA card
for now until someone can help me.

Here is my system
P4 2,8Ghz (800FSB)
1gb ram
420 wt power supply
Gigabyte GA-8VT800

Thanks
Marc

Forgot to mention in running Win XP Pro SP1 with latest X9 drivers.

I removed my Nvidia(uninstalled) and setup standard vga driver then rebooted
with the Radeon 9800 PRo and installed with the latest Catalyst drivers so
there were no previous ATI drivers.

Try deleting the ut2003/04.ini files and getting the game to remake em with
the new ATI card installed. or uninstall and reinstall em with the new card
in and running

How about re-installing windows, or trying to remove the old drivers
first...

Ati to Nvidia or Nvidia to Ati means you first need to clean up the
system of the old drivers.

Yup....

Do you think this is necessary since all other games work fine ?

The only problem games are UT2K3 and UT2k4. As I said, UT, UT2, Quake3, etc
all work fine with the Radeon installed

In that case the problem is limited to UT2K3/K4. Wich probably means
those games still think you run nvidia hardware. Remove that pesky ini
file and start the game up, it will then make a new ini file!

I did completely remove UT2K3 then added the Radeon and reinstalled UT2K3.
Still no luck.

THAT is not enough, have you also removed the directories on the HD
after un-installing? ( else you haven't removed the INI file )

I have both cards in 2 computers... On my main PC, I had swapped out
the TI4200 for the 9800PRO... On purpose, I left the nvidia drivers
on... I had to REMOVE them to get the ATI working correctly... so try
Detonator Destoryer

When I did it, I did NOT reinstall or remove the games (Unreal2 / UT /
UT2003 or most other games). When I later went from Win98 to a clean
install of WinXP - I also didn't reinstall my games (Not on C:
partition).

But as someone has posted, you may have ini issues thou...

reinstalling Windows should not be needed... but with M$ you never
know.

Most 420watt PSUs are actually 200watts... what brand is it?

What's the best way to remove the old drivers if my ATI is already in ?

Driver Cleaner 2..0 or higher. Remove both sets of drivers
and re-install the Ati driver V(name-your-poison version number..)
