piece of poo thing is really annoying me!

i recently bought a new hard drive, installed the drivers from the CD. but the screen doesnt display smoothly. if i scroll down on the screen it refreshes each time. also when i move a window on the desktop there's a delay before it gets to where i want it to go.

any ideas?

ATI produce drivers ...

loopy,
It is usually a driver problem ... using the latest & greatest from the manufacturer ususally helps, just use the ones off the CD to get you going ... using the right screen resolution also helps as does installing the monitor drivers too.

;)

yeah, downloaded and installed.

does the same thing
Then we need to know who made the graphic card your OS, MB & monitor specs

take it you dont like ati, then mucks?;)
Oh, I wouldn't say that ... I'll put them ahead of SiS ... it takes them far too long to get the drivers right, AND their support for Linux sucks.

:)

oh the real reason, i forgot your a Linux person:D And not using Microsh1te software:lol:

GFX card: Radeon 9250 256MB GDDR
Mobo: ASRock P4VM800
Monitor: Dell E193FP
What resolution and refresh rate are you using for the monitor? - the native is 1280x1024 @ 75Hz....

60 should be fine for a TFT - in some cases gives a clearer picture than 75...

Refresh rate i think its REALLY meant for CRT monitors... that refresh...

Mine runs at 60Hz x 1280 x 1024 (LG Flatron L1730P) and wont display : anything above that

ive rebooted and now some of the fonts don't get displayed

for instance, the text where it says "loopy" is fuzzy and illegible

I've got the LG Flatron L1915S and it goes up to 75Hz before you reach the hidden modes, as does my Acer AL1715 - so I would have thought yours would Chris...

for some reason it doesnt like 75Hz
According to the Dell specification, the native resolution is 1280x1024 @ 75Hz - so there should be no reason for it not to work correctly at those settings - something somewhere, as you are experiencing, is not right - I just wish I could work out where :(

Have you installed the Monitor drivers.

;)
I've never installed monitor drivers on any of mine - I've just booted up and let XP install whatever it needs - never had a problem.

Are the manufacturers drivers actually required and are they any better Mucks?

Drivers are drivers ... I have "fixed" many a monitor poblem by simply installing them ... XP does an admiral job with it's Plug&Play, yes? ... my old Sony 17" would reach 1024x768 @120 with drivers and only manage 85Hz without.

I just had a look at the Iiyama 19" here ... it is 1024 x 768 @ 85Hz on Plug&Pray ... now I need to find the drivers, got them here somewhere, I know this will do 100Hz at that res. ;)

Now, they are CRT monitors ... LCD/TFTs are another animal ... but if I have drivers I'll use them. :)

Loopy, Try using 1024 x 768 and tell us if there is any difference. :thumb:
