Will the R500 actually be more advanced than the R520 to give the Xbox 360
some technogical lead(for a short time) over t PC graphics..this happened
with the original Xbox.
If this is the case..what are these features?
Thx
Yes and no.
R500 will be more advanced than R520 in many ways, but R520 is almost
certainly going to be clocked higher, and have more equivalent pipelines.
the Xbox 360 has been announced with a graphics processor that will have 48
unified pipes, but these are actually ALUs. from what I understand, this
is like 24 pipes total, compared to the R420 and R480 (X800 / X850) which
have 22 pipes total (6 vertex pipes + 16 pixel pipes).
the R520 is rumored to have 96 ALUs, twice as many as R500 in Xbox 360.
however, the R500 has 10 MB of embedded DRAM, and the R520 probably will not
have this. the R500 probably also a more feature-rich architecture that
goes beyond Shader Model 3.0, will probably be inbetween SM3.0 and SM4.0 -
whereas the R520 is likely to be just SM3.0 or SLIGHTLY beyond it.
The R500 in Xbox 360 will show up in the PC world as the R600, with even
more advancements.
