Ran across a mention of this in another newsgroup. Anybody got any
experience with this? Thinking of recommending it to a coupla
security-challenged acquaintances.

You may want to try Spyware Blaster instead. It's been around awhile,
has support forums for it, and is updated regularly. Qwikfix looks to
do the same things as Spyware Blaster.
Another bonus... it's not betaware.
