Please, somebody agree with me.
But who thinks quotations are way overused on this forum. Isn't there a better way to show you are responding to somebodies post...I mean sometimes it feelslike I have read a book.. We all probably know what everybody has said already anyway. I mean, I read a thread from the first post, not half way through. So why no have something like a quick reference...ie, Floppybootstomp is replying to MadX post # 23....MadX post been the 23rd post...Mmmm am I making sence..?

some people just don't know how to use a furum. :thumb:

... and yes, it annoys me also, I have even edited people's posts.

It's not neccessary to quote the whole post, which is usually way OTT. Sometimes quoting just a few words is enough to get the reader on the right track and I think that that is a good idea.

The problem with saying X is quoting post #23 in Y's thread is that post #23 may not be on the same page. A few quoted words will get the idea across. :)

I use selective quoting and I will carry on doing so.

A short extract serves to remind the reader what we're discussing and can often save the poster having to write a complete paragraph.

Quoting whole lengthy posts is usually pointless because nobody usually bothers to read the whole thing again.

And quoting out of context to twist matters is a bit naughty.

Even naughtier is mis-quoting

Don't think so !! ;)Only last week someone replied to one of my posts saying that it was common knowledge that folk don't read all of the posts in a thread. :pThis was in response to me pointing out that the information looked for had already been posted.

If you look through some threads you will quickly see that some folk do not even read the first post and only read the last post then reply.:D Which leads to some very interesting threads.
