Greetigns-

W2K3 file server with one volume. Workstations are XPproSP1. We've set a
quota limit on the server to warn users at 450 MB and shut 'em out at 500
MB. We are not getting the 450 MB warning message. Any ideas?

Thanx

Pardon me if I my questions are too basic - but I wanted ensure that you
have got the settings correct.

Have you checked the check-box that says "Log event when the user exceeds
their warning level"?

To ensure that that quotas are indeed being computed and enforced ...

1. Open up the quota properties tab (by right clicking on <drive>: and
selecting properties)
2. Click "Quota Entries" button
3. This will show you a listing of all the users in the system and their
current quota status. If the user has exceeded the warning level the status
field will show "Warning".

If this doesnt help - please let me know.

Greetings-

Yes, I've checked these settings. The "Log event when the user exceeds
their warning level" box is checked. There is a user who's status shows
"Warning" but has not received a warning message. By the way, in what form
does the warning message present itself? A pop-up? Could it be settings
somewhere in a GPO, perhaps, that are suppressing this message?

Thanx
OregonSteve

There is no pop-up when the user has crossed their warning level. The only
thing that NTFS does is log an event in the event log if you have checked
the box.

Only when the user crosses their limit and you have checked "Deny disk
space", will a pop-up for "insufficient disk space" be shown to the user.

So the behavior you are seeing is what is expected.

I can not belive this - I have been pulling my hair out for hours trying to work out why no warning is poping up to the users only to read that this is by design

What is the point of a warning - when no one sees it. MS surely don't expect Admins to montior eventlogs and notify users of reaching their warning limit?

Users are warned in Exchange - why not in the File System quota
