I don't know of any quilting programs - graph paper apps (useful for
making patterns) are listed here:

Hi Mike,

It's Registerware (doesn't appear very useful to me). Your post got me
thinking more about this - one thing led to another - and below is a
*long* list of Freeware and categories of Freeware that I think would be
useful in making pattchwork quilts. There are many other kinds of quilts
but I think this is enough for openers. . . ;)

ISTM Quilting Freeware would make a nice page in the wiki - I'm not
familiar enough with graphic apps to pick the *best* ones for quilters -
would like to hear from the experts. I've arranged the info below more
or less in the order I think it will be used - have included a couple of
how-to links to show the tasks that are involved.

If we can come up with a list of *especially* useful apps ISTM a
"quilting CD" would make a nice present for the quilters in your family.

Quilt Graphics - Below you will find quilt graphics I have made in
pastel baby colors. These are 200 by 200 in size and would be good for a
friendship quilt. On the next page I have some sized 100 by 100 and a
quilt put together using a html table.

Also an editor is provided that lets you create your own collections of

Hello Susan, I came across this in my travels, don't know if you have
seen this, which I thought was [kind-of] interesting:

Fractal Art Quilts
<http://www.roserushbrooke.com/>

Making use of freeware fractal generation programs to produce quilt
designs.
<http://www.roserushbrooke.com/fractal-sites.html>

Darn it Mike - I'm trying to get something done here. :) :) :)

Seduced into playing again. . . this mornings toy was Colour Editor. I
*had* put it away - then you came along with your fractals. . .

Suggest you try it too - this page:

http://www.roserushbrooke.com/fractal-art-quilts-article.html

has a fractal image and an image of the quilt made from it. Download those:

http://www.roserushbrooke.com/images/pizza-original.gif
http://www.roserushbrooke.com/images/fractal-quilts/pizzasm.jpg

Convert the pizza-original.gif into a JPG or bitmap image - then download:

Program: Colour Editor
Author: Peter Bone
Install: (n.i.)
Ware: Freeware
http://www.geocities.com/peter_bone_uk/

http://www.rupertmillard.net/mirror/peterbone/ColorEditor.zip
(276 KB)

then see if you can convert the original colors into the colors used in
the quilt.

Hint (there's no help file): "It can also change colours that are not
exactly the same by adjusting the tollerance" - the slider bar just
above the image is used to do that.

IMO this is a very nice app.

Well, I've gone and wrecked my afternoon, toying about with fractals,
then I got sidetracked with the "ZoomQuilt"
<http://www.media.ebaumsworld.com/supercoolpic.swf>

It's Flash (and probably not much to do with quilting) :-)

It seems I can't view that till I update my Flash player - which is
probably just as well. :)

One of these days I'll add some info about quilting freeware to the
wiki. IMO web pages with info and screen shots would be great - I seem
to be the main enthusiast in ACF and the notion is tempting me - would
need to get a site. . . my to-do list keeps growing. ;)

Ah it's harmless and is art, nothing too taxing. A kind of Dali-esque
walk thru of some surreal landscapes in a painterly fashion. Quite well
done, worth the 30 secs viewing I suppose, if you like surrealism that
is.

Oops - bad choice of words on my part - ISTM if I had been able to view
it I would have been tempted into viewing additional things and spent
hours and hours and hours. . . so probably just as well I couldn't take
that first fatal step. . . ;)

also images showing a selection of quilt blocks and the ways they can be
combined to make different patterns etc. etc. I'm playing with some
apps - looking for the ones that are easiest to use (KISS) - it's an
interesting exercise. . .
