They come with a 3 year warranty (not the 1 year offering many other
companies provide). There's a review of them here http://storagereview.com/articles/200401/20040112SP1614N_1.html which places
them about middle in terms of idle noise but seek noise (which is untested
here) is definitely where they excel.
New drives are much quieter than their ancestors. If comparing
to an older drive you would likely be satisfied with the
liquid-bearing models offered by Seagate, Hitachi, Maxtor,
Samsung, & Western Digital. That list is roughly quietest to
loudest, Seagate being quietest. Western Digital's older "JB"
series 120GB is by far the loudest.
Temp difference isn't as large, a cooling strategy with
sufficient margin for one make would suffice for another as well.
