I find both the Pioneer 109 and LG 4176B to be fine noise and performance wise.

I have the 4176B in my HTPC and have gone out of my way to make that
as quite as possible, no fans except the power supply and cpu fan, and
went to a lot of trouble to get quiet ones of those too. And I run it with
no covers on, right next to my armchair. The only effect you notice when
playing a DVD is the flickering of the led on the front of the drive.

They can both do that since they both come with Nero.

Dunno, I dont bother to limit the speed.

109 AINT QUIET. Got one and NO way in hell can it be called quiet.
Also no tools ive used and ive used them all makes it quiet :(

I know Pioneer make quiet drives. So i might check them out. As my
local shop supplies them.

Tanks.

When I was looking at forums for HTPC systems Samsung/Toshiba drives were
recommended.
