Using WinXP,Home,SP2+, downloaded and attempted to install Quicktime 7.1
which happens to come with iTunes.

When installation is almost completed and is reading "publishing product
info," receive a window, "Windows Install interrupted before iTunes
could be completely installed."

Tried this several times and with a new download and reboot. Deleted
the old Quicktime which came with an Epson printer. Uninstalled and
re-installed Windows Installer.

Checked Apple Quicktime website and checked for support and couldn't
find anything. So if anyone has an idea about this, it would be
appreciated. (FYI, this same thing occurred six months ago when
attempting to install Canon's photo software that came with a digital
camera, and still don't have it installed either.)

Try iTunes support, rather than Quicktime support. The forums are
particularly helpful:

Search through about 200 msgs and didn't find anything except a link to
installing Quicktime without iTunes. Downloaded and installation caused
the same problem. Attempted to ask a question, but that requires
signing up which in turn requires an Apple ID which I don't have.

Not going to bother trying safe mode. Heck, I have a windows computer,
not a Mac (& never will after this experience with their website!), so
as far as I am concerned Quicktime is not necessary!

Thanks for the help :-)

when i worked for apple we had all kinds of trouble with quicktime
installations on windows machines.

try uninstalling quicktime from add/remove if something is still
showing up there.

delete the quicktime folder (sometimes there's a quicktime 2 folder,
also) from the program files folder.

empty your trash and restart.

then, install the quicktime standalone installer. here's the link:
(this probably isn't the one you've installed before).

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

if that doesn't install properly, your firewall might be blocking the
download/installation, or your antivirus or antispyware may be
interfering.

i wasn't paying attention and didn't realize you were installing
itunes, also.

you should be able to run an installation of quicktime standalone
installer over an installation of itunes.

this usually clears things up. if it doesn't, then it could be any
number of things going wrong.

Yes, I had uninstalled the old Quicktime, and tried the stand-alone the
other day with the same result. The antivirus was turned off along with
all other active programs, and I had rebooted to empty things out. Oh,
and I did re-install Windows Installer to no avail.

Since this is two or three programs that have identical install
difficulties over the past year I must presume that something is wrong
with my WinXP, but I cannot figure it out. Perhaps a Window pro will
jump here with some advice in that direction.
