I'm having trouble getting any ADO example code to run. I tried
installing the QuickStart Samples and Tutorials, but there are a bunch
of errors in the log file produced by the ConfigSamples utility.

First:
2:25:06 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Begin Samples Configuration]
2:25:06 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Could not detect IIS
(Internet Information Services). Virtual directories will not be
created.

I tried installing IIS from my Windows CD a couple times, but still
get this error. I'm running Windows 2000 SP4, and coding in C# under
VS .NET 2003. The IIS admin service is running.

Second:
2:34:08 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Pass] Added QuickStart user
to SQL Server.
2:34:20 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Error executing SQL
script. (Script/ExitCode): InstPubs.sql/1
2:34:32 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Could not add
QuickStart user to database.: Pubs: Cannot open database requested in
login 'Pubs'. Login fails.

2:34:43 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Error executing SQL
script. (Script/ExitCode): InstNwnd.sql/1
2:34:54 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Could not add
QuickStart user to database.: Northwind: Cannot open database
requested in login 'Northwind'. Login fails.
Login failed for user 'PWILKINSON\paul'.
2:35:06 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Error executing SQL
script. (Script/ExitCode): Grocer.sql/1
2:35:17 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Could not add
QuickStart user to database.: GrocerToGo: Cannot open database
requested in login 'GrocerToGo'. Login fails.
Login failed for user 'PWILKINSON\paul'.
2:35:28 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Error executing SQL
script. (Script/ExitCode): Portal.sql/1
2:35:39 AM Wednesday, December 31, 2003: [Fail] Could not add
QuickStart user to database.: Portal: Cannot open database requested
in login 'Portal'. Login fails.
Login failed for user 'PWILKINSON\paul'.

I don't have a clue what to do about this. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi Paul,

Sample assumes that you are using integrated security to login to sql
server.
a) do you have Sql server installed (or MSDE)
b) do you have windows integrated security enabled on sql server
c) does user 'PWILKINSON\paul' have rights to login to sql server and
execute scripts?

I have MSDE installed. I don't know know how to administer it, though.
How do I
- enable windows integrated security?
- give myself rights?

Also, where can I find some documentation that will answer these types
of questions? I've been spinning my wheels on this stuff for quite a
while.
