My quick launch bar, which was next to the START tab, has
suddenly disappeared.
When I right click on the bar, next to the start tab,
nothing happens, so that I can't restart it or other bars
again.

I repeat: when I right click on the bar (TaskBar)nothing
happens. There is nothing to select. It all has
disapeared.
But thanks for your comments, JackD

To start a program as a taskbar button or as a maximized window

1.. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar & Start Menu.
2.. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Advanced.
3.. In the Start Menu folder, find the shortcut to the program you want to
start, and then click it.
4.. On the File menu, click Properties, and then click the Shortcut tab.
5.. In the Run list, click Minimized if you want the program to open as a
taskbar button, or click Maximized if you want the program to open as a
full-screen window.
Notes

a.. To open the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, right-click an
empty area on the taskbar, and then click Properties.
b.. Starting a program as a taskbar button is useful for the program shortcuts
in your Startup menu. To use the program, click its button on the taskbar.
c.. Starting a program in a maximized window is useful for items you typically
run in a full screen, such as your word processing program. Each time you start
the program, it will open in a full-screen window.

Jack has no right click option. When he right clicks on his now *empty*
taskbar no right click menu comes up.
