When I try to restore my Quicken 2000 deluxe data from a CD I get an error message that simply says file not restored I managed to load data from floppy disks, but not the last 7 months which are on the CDs.

I ve downloaded a patch from quicken but that did not solve the problem. I ve also tried to validate the data on the CD but that did not work. I can see the data on the CD and it is the same file extension as what Quicken has. Is this a windows based problem or a Quicken based problem?

It has been my eXPerience that when trying to "restore" a file from a CD-ROM
using Windows XP, one must sometimes copy the source file from the CD-ROM to a
convenient location on the local hard-drive.

Give it a whirl. Make a folder on your Desktop. Give it a clever name. Copy
the file(s) you need in order to perform the restoration of Quicken 2000 from
the CD-ROM to the newly created folder.

Then, go into your Quicken 2000 and try restoring by pointing the software to
the folder on the Desktop, rather than the CD-ROM.

The Quicken files may be read-only on the CD. Quicken insists on its
files being RW.

Copy the files from the CD to your hard disk, then remove the Read
Only attribute from those files, then restore from thos files.

If backing up Quicken files, use CDRW
