Hello
I am trying to play quicktime movie files through
PowerPoint for teaching college students. PPT doesnt seem
to recognise the file type. Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

PowerPoint on the PC only recognizes Quicktime versions one and two. If your
files are Quicktime three or four, they won't run under PPT on your PC. To
get around this, you need to convert your movies to a different format.

Power Point can't play recent versions of Quick time files.

What you can do however is get Power Point to action the
file which will then launch the QT player and play the
file from within QT player. You will see the distracting
QT player frame, but at least it will play your mov file.

You must have Quick Time player installed on the computer
that will play the file.

Draw a circle box or other object to create a button -
right click on it and
select action setting

select hyperlink to:

select other file
navigate to the Quick Time file you want to play and
select open

In show mode when you click on the button you made it will
launch the QT player and play the file

An other way is to convert the Qick Time file to an mpeg
file. This will play back within Power Point.

Media Cleaner, Pinnacle and many other applications can
do this. The down side is that it takes ages for the
converted file to render-a 2 min QT file will take 10
minutes to render.

I always convert QT files to mpeg. Id rather have a video
play direct in Power point and have control of it than
have the QT player running separatly.

This way, I can always have an other cup of coffee while
the file renders!
