Quick Searching Contacts no longer works

Using: Outlook 2002 & Win 2K-Pro

Earlier this morning, quick searching in my contacts suddenly stopped
working. In other words, I cannot type the first few letters of the name I'm
looking for. When I do, nothing happens. In addition, I also can't utilize
the alphabet "click bar" on the right side of the window. When I click any
of those buttons, I'm automatically dumped to the last contact. Searching MS
Outlook help, I found answers for this problem as far as accessing shared
contacts is concerned, but these are my own contacts. (The suggestion:
install SP3. Did that some time ago.) I called my internal help desk, and
was answered with a resounding "duh" followed by the suggestion that I scroll
through my contacts to find what I need. That's efficient for 1,300+
contacts, right?

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Clarify what you mean by "quick searching."
Clarify your information store.

"Quick searching" is a term that I found when searching the MS help sites for
info about my problem. In other words: When I'm in my contacts folder, I
cannot search through my contacts quickly by typing the first few letters of
the name I'm looking for. For instance, if I had your name in my contacts,
and you were filed as "Valentine, Russ," I would type "val" to get to your
information. In addition, there is a "clickable" alphabet on the right side
of my contacts screen. If I wanted to get to all the contacts that start
with "V", I would click on "V." What's happening now is that I am dumped all
the way at the end of my contacts, in spite of the fact that I have 22
contacts whose "file as" names start with "V."

Problem resolved.

The issue was related to a "sort" that I set up. I tried to sort my
contacts by Category in Card View. For whatever reason, that didn't work,
but it also disabled quick searching.
