I've just begun reading this and other Microsoft newsgroups and have noticed
that there are quite a few signatures like this: "MS-MVP ~ Windows XP
Shell/User". What do they mean? I've poked around a bit and am wondering if
there is an FAQ for this and other Microsoft newsgroups.

Thanks,

Ken

"MVP" is a title bestowed by Microsoft on people who
respond to the requisite number of posts on these websites.
In true Tom Sawyer fashion, MS has gotten these people to
do their work by offering them little MS Junior Fire Chief
badges. Although there are a few who offer useful help,
for the most part they are MS sycophants who cut and paste
the same responses ad infinitum, ad nauseum. MS, in
awarding the MVP "distinction" doesn't seem to care
whether the responses posted make sense or actually help
to address the real causes of problems. It's strictly
a quantity-over-quality thing.

An MVP I ain't, don't pretend to be, don't wanna be. I do answer what I
know about or have "smoke tested". Yes, I cut and paste from pre-written
responses because I see the same question almost daily. I don't answer
every one, especially if already answered. Most people don't care; they
want an answer NOW as the problem just occurred on their system. Be glad
someone IS answering .
