Hi all

I just got myself a new CPU (athlon 2600 XP+, 266 fsb) and it comes with no
heatsink/fan. I was wondering if I can use my heatsink/fan from the Athlon
XP 1.7+ CPU that I currently have with this new CPU. Or do I need a stronger
fan and an bigger heatsink or can I swap CPU and keep the older (yet AMD
approved) fan/heatsink?

Thanks in advance.

Use the one you have and monitor the temps.
Flat the bottom of the old one with 500 wet&dry and then polish to as
mirror finish with some Brasso(Any Metal polish) and then use a small
amount of thermal compound on the raised Athlon core.
If you wish a cheap, quiet HSF combo I use this one,

MicroFlow2 SPA07B2
even comes with it's own tube of,"Artic silver" type thermal compound.
HTH :)
