quick mobo mounting question

Hi,


My case (Nexus Breeze) has been supplied with small metal clips and screws
with fibre washers to mount the mobo. I'm installing an MSI board and I
wonder if I should use thease washers as they will insulate the top of the
board from the chassis.

So, insulating washers or not??

Shouldn't matter. I've never used them on hundreds of builds. Well, maybe
I have just to get it out of my sight. But metal clips? I'd be careful
with these and I don't know what they are unless you're talking about
brass standoffs which are common.

Just speculation, but many lower cost cases come with "square" standoffs
that clip onto the case as opposed to being screwed in. I believe this is
what he is referring to. Depending on the size of the top of the clip (where
the threads are .... the part that will sit against the motherboard) you may
want to go ahead and use the insulators on them. The only ones I have ever
seen were still small enough to not cause a problem, but just check to make
sure you wont be shorting any traces on the PCB with the clip type
standoffs.

Yes, they are the square metal standoffs that just clip into the case, the
tops are small enough not to cause any shorts.
I don't see how it is possible to put the insulation washers UNDER the
board, without resorting to glue or something to hold them in place, it
seems it's not important anyway.

Like you Wes, I use the brass turrets, but providing the fibre is
twixt the screw and the MOBO top they seem ok.

They are however an ' iffy ' item, cheap-as-chips proper brass turrets
can be had from any OEM supplier

Used to also think . . ' solder bath ', but no, they go ' topside '.

Just pop the standoffs in from the back side of the case, make sure they
all line up and there no unused ones under the board.
Don't need insulation washers on ATX.
