Quick Launch Toolbar

I recently upgraded to xp and one of the things that has annoyed me is the size of the quick launch toolbar. in 98 i could have as many icons as i wanted, but in xp i can only seem to get 3 before it puts the arrow in to expand. does anybody know if there is a way to stretch the quick launch bar so that i can get one click access to more programs?
 
What happens when you move the toolbar's 'handle'? For example, place your
cursor over the right handle and it becomes a double-headed arrow; now drag
the handle to make the toolbar longer.

First unlock the tool bar - rt. click on tool bar, uncheck lock, then you
can drag the right end of the quick launch area.
