I recently bought XP Home off of newegg and installed it
on a freshly formatted (courtesy of the XP installer)
hard drive. The problem I have is that the quick launch
area is not showing up. I have programs that asked to
put icons in it to which I said yes, and I've tried
futzing with the size (dragging the area around) but
nothing is working.
I think this is part of a bigger problem though. I
haven't installed a windows XP version for like 9 months,
so I might be wrong, but I think my version is missing
stuff. When it's all installed and loads XP for the
first time, nothing is on the desktop except the recycle
bin. Didn't My Computer and Network Something used to
show up in upper left? It also doesn't recognize any of
my devices. I had no sound until installing my audigy 2
drivers, I had no internet until updating the Ethernet
controller (via device manager) using my motherboards CD,
and the refresh rate was horrible until I got new video
drivers in for my radeon 9500. I don't remember it being
this bad last time I put in a fresh copy.
So, in conclusion, I wanted to know how to get my Quick
launch area up and running and if those problems are
normal with a fresh install of XP Home, or if they could
cause me problems down the road. (As a side note, now
that everything is installed, it seems to be running
fine.)
