As I have an annoying problem with the Quick Launch Bar (it returns to the
default size after system shutdown), I would be very grateful if someone
could tell me where does IE save the QLB settings (giving me the possibility
to find an easier way to return to my preferred settings). Thank you in
advance!

Try C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Already did that, Emrys! I also did an extensive search through the registry
settings (keywords "quick launch") but I didn't find anything that seemed to
be saved user preferrences. There MUST be a place where the length of the
QLB is specified, and there also MUST be a place to set the order in which
the content icons are displayed! I'm pretty sure of that, as each time these
settings are lost (at system shut-down) my QLB returns to the default length
and displays the icons in the order in which they were added (not the one I
set). I still suppose these settings are stored in the registry under some
not-so-obviously-named keys... Any idea? Thank you!

TL

I don't see the connection between the QLB and IE, apart from the
folder that holds the shortcuts, C:\WINDOWS\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch (in some operating
systems, anyway)
I would assume the settings are operating system dependent, though you
might look to see if you have a value set for NoSaveSettings in the
Registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Have you posted this to a newsgroup for your operating system?
