I've been using Vista now for about 2 weeks. It came on
my new laptop. I have the following questions.
1.When I attempt to start some program desktop shortcuts,
instead of running, the file is first opened up in the Explorer
file handler. Then if I open the icon in the Explorer it finally
will then run. How can I change the settings to get the app
to "just run on the first double click" ?
2.When I create a New Folder, it doesn't give me a chance
to name the it. It just comes up New Folder.

No idea what you've done to cause that.

When you create a new folder those words are highlighted in blue. Use
the backspace key to enter a name you desire. If New Folder is already
entered and you've left the focus of such a folder where it is no
longer selected or you want to change the name of a folder named
something else right click it then select rename, then type something
in after backspacing the old name out. These have been standard
procedures in Windows forever.

You did not say if you double-clicked-left or right click.
It sounds as if you RIGHT clicked and then clicked OPEN.
Are you sure your mouse buttons are not reversed ?
