questions on RAM

i wanted to upgrade my ram from 1gig to 2gigs, and i have geil value ram
right now and i was wondering if the brand of ram matters like if i could get
kingston or viking, and i know i cant change the type like ddr2 ram. right
now i have dimm sd ram, and i was wondering if you could tell me where i
could buy that type of ram. (desktop computer)
