What is the intention of your previous post? Are you looking for answers or
looking to provide them to people with the problems you addressed? As
requested, I did not post this there as to start a discussion. I do know
awhile back I was directed to a hotfix that took care of a problem with some
firewire ports after XP SP2 is installed. I didn't have the problem, I just
loaded the fix just in case. Apparently for some ports the speed is reduced
from 400 down to 100 after SP2 is installed. This may or may not be related
to the problems you addressed in your previous post. It may be in the port,
not the camera or rest of PC. Just thought I'd throw that out to you.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for that.
At the moment, any one who has had athe problem addressed it with a fix and
cured it, is welcome to to give their results. I am at this stage not giving
definitive fixes, just trying to collate info on what has, hasn't worked
with which models of cam.
It was that just a few older camcorders with a version of firmeware which
wasn't quite up to ieee1394 standards that was affected. Windows under sp1
didn't have a totally standard ieee1394 driver base, which is why they would
work if you reverted to the older drivers.
We have found that some newer models have been affected, now MS believes
that they are conforming to the ieee1394 stds, which means the new cams
aren't. They are at present trying to buy the right model of cams to test
these to see if they (MS) are to blame or not, and at the same time we are
trying to compile a definitive list of cams which have had this problem.
