I would like to burn a slide show of family pictures onto a DVD...but Nero's
DVD creation software is not quite up to par. I would like to use Windows
Movie Maker to create an MPEG of my slides. But I have a few
questions/problems:

1) I have Windows Movie Maker installed, but it's version 1. I am unable to
locate version 2 in Windows Update. What's going on?

2) When I preview slides in Movie Maker, and click the Full Screen button,
my images (JPG) are extremely pixellated and jagged.

3) Is Movie Maker this plain? How do I insert transitions? How do I control
the delay for each image in the slide show? How do I get into the in-depth
control of my project?

4) Are there any freeware applications out there (or unrestricted trials)
that will allow me to create a pleasant-looking slide show to convert to
MPEG?

Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Dave,
You need to click on "Help" in Windows Movie Maker, then click on MM on the
Web. Once you get to that site, download the free version 2.1.

2.1 has the transitions, credits and special effects.

Then, after you make your slideshow, save as follows:
1. Save as Movie File
2. My Computer
Next
3. Enter name/save in My Videos
Next
4. Clisk on "Other Settings"
5. Click on down arrow
6. Highlight DV-AVI (NTSC) file type
Next
It will then save as DV-AVI file.

Open Nero
1.Click on 'Make Your Own DVD-Video
2. Add Video Tile
3. Click on your video file
Next
45. Choose opening menu page provided in Nero
Next
5. Burn to - Choose drive
6. Burn

Make sure your DVD player is compatible with the type DVD you are burning.
Mine used DVD-R's. Your player manual should tell you which one to use.

You will pick this up very quickly after your first home move.
I am using Nero Ultra 6 Edition.

Good luck.

This is actually going to be a slide show, created into a video. Can I use
transitions and delays for images, too?

After you download Windows Movie Maker 2.1, you can incorporate many
different transitions, special effects and music to your still photos to
create your movie. You can adjust the duration time of the photos and
transitions very easily. WMM 2.1 is extremely user-friendly. You will
become a "Spielberg" in no time. The program also lets you incorporate film
footage in with your still photos, if you have a camcorder.

I don't wanna be a Spielberg...I wanna be a Lucas...

I don't suppose Media Maker is much better than ILM? LOL
